Which DeMarini zen is banned? ›

The ban on the original 2017 -10, 2-3/4″, and -8 2-5/8″ CF Zens remains intact. The retooled versions of these bats are still legal for play in nearly all leagues where greater than 2-5/8″ diameter bats and non-USABats are allowed.

For DeMarini, CF, or Continuous Fiber Composite Technology, first made its way into Fastpitch Softball in 2007 as a multi-piece hybrid bat. The barrel was long, the sweet spot seemingly never-ending, and the swing felt natural. It checked all of the boxes that hitters look for in a bat.

It looks like DeMarini is bringing back the Zen for 2025. That's fun. In BBCOR, it might be a limited run in 32—and 33-inch, but we will see if they expand it. USSSA will have a 5, 8, 10 and 11 drop as well in all the sizes you would hope for.

Unfortunately, all bats have a limited life, and at some point, your bat will lose its pop.

To properly break in your composite bat, we recommend taking 150-200 swings playing soft toss or off a tee using real baseballs. Start off by swinging at about 50% of your typical swing. Slowly work your way up to full strength over the first 100 swings.

The 2021 DeMarini CF Zen Fastpitch bat is the same as the 2020 DeMarini CF Fastpitch Bat. Both are two-piece composites with the same barrel, end cap, knob, and profile. There are no changes but the paint job. Compared to the 2019 CF, the 2021 has an upgraded endcap.
